Bourbon Pairing with Cheese Board
Wine isn’t the only thing that goes well with cheese. The right bourbon will also compliment a cheese board. Recently my beautiful wife made one of her creative and tasty charcuterie boards. Instead of opening a bottle of wine, I pour some of my favorite bourbons that pair well with the various cheeses, meats and nuts.
The wide range of flavors in bourbon make it a surprisingly good match with most cheeses. I’ve found that lower-proof bourbons tend to do better since they won’t numb your taste buds. My recommendation is to stay with bottles that are under 100 proof so the pour doesn’t overtake the cheese.
My favorite cheeses to pair with my bourbon are gouda and Irish white cheddar. I also like to sip a little water in between my cheese and sips as I go between the various cheeses.
I enjoy the following bourbons my cheese board:
While you should go with the bourbon you personally like, I’ve found that these four pair well with most of the cheeses without the alcohol overpowering them. Regardless, don’t think you are stuck with wine and cheese. Break out a bottle of your favorite bourbon the next time you’re looking to enjoy a charcuterie board.
